Santa Maria Maggiore

The silver-gilt reliquary was donated by the Duchess Maria Emanuela Pignatelli, the Ambassador of Portugal, and designed by Giuseppe Valadier in the early 19th century. It replaced an 18th century reliquary looted by the French at the end of that century. It is in the form of a soup-tureen with hanging festoons, and with a figure of the Holy Child on top. The reliquary has several crystal windows through which the Culla can be seen.
