The present altarpiece is a very interesting fresco from 1460 of the Madonna with Child, which is attributed to Benozzo Gozzoli, a pupil of Fra Angelico, and may originate from the old Church of Santa Maria a Magna Naples, which was built before the current Santi Domenico e Sisto. It is the only remnant of the former church.
