The aedicule of the high altar concave to fit into the curve of the apse. It has a pair of black marble Composite columns supporting a segmental pediment with a contrasting red marble frieze. The altar itself is decorated with the heraldry of the Della Rovere family, and has an altarpiece by Commodi showing
Sts Vitalis, Valeria, Gervase and Protase.
