Very unusually the effigy is in mosaic which has been dated to c. 1300 on stylistic grounds, so it seems likely that the identification is correct. The plaque is attributed to fra Jacopo Torriti. This is in fact the only surviving tomb slab in Rome on which the deceased is depicted in mosaic.
