Santa Maria in Trastevere

The image of Mary on the façade is believed to be the earliest iconographic depiction of the Virgin nursing Jesus. There are two tiny figures kneeling either side of the Virgin, and these are anonymous donors. Above her is a small lamb, the Agnus Dei .
