To the left of the entrance is a memorial to Pope Nicholas IV (1288-1292), designed by Domenico Fontana in 1574 at the request of Cardinal Felice Peretti , and was built by Alessandro Cioli. This was over three centuries after the death of the pope. The side panels are two female statues, made by Leonardo Sormani. On the left, is Truth and on the right, Justice. Originally, the monument was on the wall of the sanctuary but was moved here during the Fuga restoration in the mid 18th century.
