Above the high altar and projecting from the cornice in the segmental pediment is a small painting that is entitled Madonna di Sanita in a tondo with a glory, supported by a pair of stucco putti. The veneration of the image became a cult when Sixtus V moved the painting to its present location between the years 1585 and 1590. The fresco work was uncovered in the 17th century restoration, preserved and enshrined here.
