In 1874 the Via Nazionale was lowered along its length, and the work entailed the substantial reduction in the ground level of the Largo Magnanapoli, and the lowering of the Via Panisperna to the left of the church, leaving an impressive revetting wall, and the substantial lengthening of the entrance stairways. Hence the lower part of the latter is late 19th century.
