The external entrance loggia is mediaeval, erected in the 12th century but altered by Fuga in the 18th century. The portico is supported by four antique Ionic columns and two piers with Corinthian capitals, the inner pair of pink granite from Aswan in Egypt and the outer pair of pavonazzetto marble from what is now Iscehisar in Turkey.
