The most important fresco in the right hand aisle is in a round-headed niche near the narthex end of the aisle, and is of the Madonna and Child. It is thought that it was originally of the empress Theodora (died 548), and was converted into a portrait of Our Lady through the addition of the Holy Child and a throne perhaps in the 9th century.
