A young woman is depicted sitting in front of a bust of the deceased, crying and wiping her eyes on her dress. She is an allegory for Friendship in Mourning. Volpato, countryman, patron and friend of Canova, was a distinguished engraver, who helped obtain for the sculptor the commission of the monument of Clement XIV, which remains to be seen in the church.
