The vault decoration follows a scheme which was then spread to many Roman churches in the second half of the 16th century The whole work was probably completed after 1585. The vault frescoes are Episodes from the life of St. Nicholas and St. Gregory the Great, by Giovan Battista Ricci; and St. Jerome, St. Ambrose , and St. Augustine, by Andrea Lilio.
